The 2012 KTM 690 Duke R state-of-the-art water-cooled single-cylinder engine with 51.5 kW (69.1 hp) and fuel injection combines powerful acceleration from the lowest revs with an outstanding free-revving nature and refined engine running. Its series production anti-hopping clutch prevents rear wheel chatter when changing down. The finely balanced crank drive of the 690 single-cylinder converts terrific combustion pressure into unrivalled single-power - thanks to its balancer shaft, which eliminates vibration without having any detrimental effect on the life of the super-single.

2012 KTM 690 Duke R
The KTM 690 Duke R with electronic engine management system always gets optimum performance out of the free-revving LC4 engine. The "electronic power throttle" also helps in achieving tremendously progressive power development: It ensures that the throttle commands from the rider are translated electronically into the optimum throttle valve opening at all times.

2012 KTM 690 Duke R
Everything on the Duke R is not only lightweight and powerful, but also particularly finely made. This begins with the cast aluminium wheels and the coated Torx® bolts, which it has in common with its Duke sister model, and extends well beyond the featherweight, hand-laminated, carbon-fibre fender. The Duke R's 9 kg (20 lb.) lightweight, orange, powder-coated tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel and the 4 kg (9 lb.) lightweight, high-quality, pin-jointed, die-cast swingarm impress with extreme levels of torsional stiffness and give rise to excellent tracking stability.

2012 KTM 1900 RC8 R Engine Superbike

 KTM 1900 RC8 R 2012 Review

The 2010 KTM 1190 RC8R is all you need to know it was not designed by an Italian. KTM is based in Austria (as a designer Gerald Kiska, who worked with KTM since 1991) a few minutes maintained by the Stelvio Pass in Italy, but there is no doubt KTM language non-Teutonic Italian design. Maybe it KTM RC8R distinctive design is the result of the location of Austria located between Italy and Germany: the cold, the influence German engineer focused romance mixed with Latin Europe. RC8R’s chiselled design creates a sense of where it stops. If the F-117 Stealth fighter crashed into a motorcycle factory, RC8R would be the most likely outcome. Thin and angular, and bound with a black matt paint, furtive looks, even if the characteristics of radar avoidance is questionable. Although few to describe the black and orange car as “beautiful”, admiration for the courage to come out well-used box of sportbike design of its brave origami shape.

2012  KTM 1900 RC8 R
KTM 1900 RC8 R With its 129 kW (173 hp) of power, the V2 on the RC8 R can be considered as the measure of all things for ultra-sporty twins, with maximum performance, predictable characteristics and high reliability. The KTM engine impresses with an extremely broad rev range and spontaneous throttle response, while supplying supreme ride quality. The main reasons for the outstanding performance of the RC8 R V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the ultra-modern cylinder heads with twin plug ignition, flow-optimised ducts and cam follower drive, each with two overhead camshafts for four valves. Valve timing is adjustable via the camshaft gears.

The twin plug ignition system on the latest RC8 R fires the two differently sized spark plugs in each cylinder head independently of each other in such a way that more efficient combustion and a smoother, optimally controlled combustion sequence are achieved at all times. The result: even more and even better controlled power, lower fuel consumption, and less emissions.

The electronic Keihin engine management system with twin throttle valves regulates the modern electronic fuel injection system on the RC8 R, focussing on maximum power with predictable engine characteristics and spontaneous responsiveness with controllable throttle response. The forged piston structure on the RC8 R, borrowed from Formula 1, results in a high piston loading capacity, despite the extremely short and lightweight design. In this way, the reciprocating weight can be minimised andthe responsiveness and free-revving nature of the engine maximised.

The smooth shape of the crank webs on the latest RC8 R results in low-loss running of the crank drive. Ride quality is improved by the altered weight distribution of the crankshaft and a re-dimensioned alternator rotor. Together they optimise the load change behaviour of the engine.

The sophisticated internal mechanism of the WP shock absorber on the RC8 R completely isolates the rebound damping from the compression stage, so that both can be adjusted without affecting one another. The compression damping can also be set for high speed and low speed. The suspension set-up range extends comfortably to racing conditions. The set-up ranges on the RC8 R's high-quality, upside-down forks from WP Suspension suffice separately for spring basis as well as the damping's rebound and compression stages from country road comfort to tough racing conditions. A WP steering damper keeps the forks on track, even in extreme conditions.

The RC8 R's brake system with highest quality Brembo® components functions perfectly, sensitively and steadily. At the front, for example, two radially-mounted, four-piston brake calipers and two 320 mm (12.6 in) and 5 mm (0.2 in) thick, semi-floating brake discs provide massive stopping power. The lightweight, Marchesini, aluminium die-cast wheels on the RC8 R are equipped with Dunlop SportSmart tyres. These top-quality tyres provide endless grip, whether on a wet country road or a scorching hot racetrack. They have a sensible service life and they support the unrivalled qualities of the KTM chassis.

2012 KTM RC8R Track 2012 Powerful V2S

Based on the KTM RC8R Track that finished sixth in our shootout last year, this new full-fairing racer comes without any of the street hardware such as headlights, blinkers, mirrors, plate holder and DOT tires – lessening the amount of effort that riders will have to invest in converting a standard KTM RC8. A strictly limited number of bikes for those who want to use their 1190 RC8 R exclusively on the racetrack. Factory-homologated for Superstock and built to be "ready to race" by the KTM Racing Division, with all the goodies from the KTM PowerParts range that make the potential for race success even greater. And equipped, of course, with everything that makes the KTM superbike so successful.

KTM 990 Super Duke R Alpha Animal 2012 Review

2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R

The KTM 990 Super Duke R sets itself apart from its Super Duke sister model not only with 9 kW (12 hp) more power, but also with so many prestigious components, such as the Akrapovic titanium manifold system, the WP steering damper and the double-butted, perfectly angled aluminium handlebars. If there's ever been an uncompromising riding machine in its purest form then it's the ultra-sporty 990 Super Duke R with mono-seat. With its muscle-flexing V2 and perfectly controllable power, it can be regarded as the ultimate scourge of the superbikes. Its equally manoeuvrable and precise chassis is equipped with the most exclusive components - from the CNC-machined triple clamp to the finest titanium exhaust manifold. In short: the 990 Super Duke R is the hottest street-legal naked bike around.

2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R

The Super Duke R's V2 sets the benchmark for free-revving twins. A lighter-weight crank drive than the Super Duke, lighter pistons, larger diameter titanium intake valves and larger throttle valves push the power up to 97 kW (130 hp). The engine impresses with explosiveness and spontaneous throttle response. Aside from optimum combustion chamber design, the major factors behind the outstanding performance of the 990 Super Duke R's V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the state-of-the-art four-valve cylinder heads, each with flow-optimised ducts and two overhead camshafts.

2012 KTM 990 Super Duke R
Particularly lightweight pistons and connecting rods bestow the 990 Super Duke's V2 engine with reduced reciprocating weight and hence a decidedly spontaneous responsiveness, underlining its extremely sporty engine characteristics. The electronic Keihin engine management system regulates the modern fuel injection system on the 990 Super Duke R, focussing on maximum power and spontaneous responsiveness. The twin throttle valves have been enlarged by 2 mm (0.08 in) compared with the Super Duke, in order to increase performance.

The 201 KTM 990 Super Duke R orange, powder-coated tubular space frame made from chrome-molybdenum steel with a bolted-on, light alloy subframe provides a steeper steering head angle in the "R" setup than the Super Duke and less trail for even greater manoeuvrability. The 575 mm (22.64 in) swingarm ensures plenty of mechanical grip. Thanks to a great variety of setting options, the upside-down telescopic fork with TiAIN-coated sliding surfaces and the directly connected shock absorber from WP Suspension with a TiAIN-coated piston rod allow optimum individual adjustment of the chassis to suit load, riding style and course.

More than adequate deceleration is ensured in the 990 Super Duke R by Brembo® brakes with the very finest components. On the front wheel, two radially-mounted monoblock four-piston brake calipers, pressured by a radial master cylinder, bite hard into floating 320 mm (12.6 in) discs.

KTM 990 Adventure 2012 New Release

Just looking at this bike and its sharp distinctive lines makes you realise that this is one durable piece of machinery. From the almost vertical screen, the bright colour, the slim profi le and the rigid frame hidden by the panels just shouts out: “I am as tough as nails, ride me any way you want and I’ll get you there!” Doesn’t that just scare you a bit knowing this bike might outlast you? The fully adjustable WPPDS shock provides for suffi cient reserves in every situation. Thanks to hydraulic spring preload, it is possible to adapt it perfectly to the respective load by means of a flip-out adjustment knob. Suspension travel on the KTM 990 Adventure is impressive at 210mm, whilst the KTM 990 Adventure R off ers a whole 55mm extra and sets the standards with an incredible 265mm. The monocoque space frame made from chrome molybdenum is the most stable and at 11kg, also the lightest construction on the market; insurance for simple handling and outstanding directional stability.

2012-KTM-990-Adventure
2012 KTM 990 Adventure
Diff erent to the Yamaha and BMW rivals the KTM provides you with a single seat comfortable enough to
take you places you’ve never been including the odd Iron-But or two. This of course is the only one of the three bikes where you could put the bike on the main stand and lie on the seat for a breather comfortably. The off -road sized rims and heavily-treaded tyres should spell vague handling, but largely they don’t. The quality WP suspension is plush and only gets a bit wobbly if you start throwing it around at high-speed. Feedback is enough to inspire confi dence, and it rarely gets fl ustered. The KTM 990 Adventure has sports-bike kicking pace on less than perfect roads, or will trot along enjoying the scenery too. The twin fuel tanks require fi lling individually, which is a minor inconvenience but helps keep the bike slim-line and the weight down.

2012 KTM 990 Adventure

2012 KTM 990 Adventure
2012 KTM 990 Adventure
I took the Adventure on the freeway so I could get a feel of how it performs under hard acceleration at relatively high speed. Excellent! No matter in what gear I was in, neither the rpm levels, the V-twin delivered the needed grunt that made the KTM feel able to pass cars with no problem whatsoever. Throtltle response is great and the bike will amaze you with every twist. But let’s face it, who am I kidding? The off road is where the 990 Adventure belongs and I was in for a rough ride. The trails are a kid’s play and I didn’t manage to fi nd it lacking the ability to suppress any obstacle that it has encountered. This bike relies on its race-inspired character to save the situation and it does it with success every single time.

The KTM 990 Adventure isn’t a cheap bike, but for your hefty outlay you get a versatile bike that will tour, long-distance commute and hammer along back roads at an indecent pace. It’ll even deal with gentle off -roading in novice hands, and a set of full knobbly tyres add enough traction to keep more experienced mud-pluggers happy. From street use to off -road hardcore exploring has never shown a meaner streak than the KTM’s 990 Adventure.

2012 KTM 990 Adventure R Dakar Edition

Built to commemorate both 30 years of the Paris-Dakar race and the Austrian firm’s 10th successive victory in the desert classic, the new version blends the standard KTM 990 Adventure R chassis with the uprated Adventure R’s 115bhp engine plus a range of cosmetic updates including orange engine bars, Dakar-style velour seat and special Dakar-inspired blue/orange paintjob. It’s priced midway between the standard and R versions, too at £9745 compared to the stocker’s £9545 and the KTM 990 Adventure R’s £9995.

2012-KTM-990-Adventure-R
2012 KTM 990 Adventure R
The 990 Adventure R water-cooled V-engine produces 84.5 kW (113.3 hp) and therefore around 7 kW (9 hp) more than its Adventure sister model precisely the shot of power required to live up to the "R" suffix. The engine impresses with powerful acceleration, superb performance and spontaneous throttle response. Aside from optimum combustion chamber design, the major factors behind the outstanding performance of the 990 Adventure R's V-twin with 75° cylinder angle are the state-of-the-art four-valve cylinder heads, each with flow-optimised ducts and two overhead camshafts. Particularly lightweight pistons and connecting rods bestow the 990 Adventure R's V2 engine with reduced reciprocating weight and hence a decidedly spontaneous responsiveness, underlining its extremely sporty engine characteristics.

The fuel tanks with a capacity of 19.5 l (20.6 qt.) ensure a long useful working range. The 990 Advendure R's totally offroad-style padded sports seat ensures suitable long-distance comfort for both rider and pillion, while also providing freedom of movement and crystal-clear feedback for a sportier pace.

2012 KTM 990 Adventure R

The large fuel tank surfaces ensure perfect leg contact for riding standing up. There are no shortage of details on the 990 Adventure R that distinguish it as a genuine travel enduro - from the practical centre stand, the lockable stowage compartment between the tanks and the on-board electrical socket, to the robust engine guard and stable hand guards.

The 990 Adventure R's tubular space frame made from thin-walled chrome-molybdenum steel tubing with a bolted-on, light alloy subframe only weighs 10.5 kg (23.1 lb.), yet it impresses with exemplary torsional stiffness. The long swingarm with conical profiles contributes plenty of mechanical grip. More than adequate deceleration is ensured in the Adventure R by Brembo® brakes with the very finest components, such as two floating 300 mm (11.81 in) brake discs. Stable wire-spoked wheels with knobbly tyres guarantee full offroad potential.
