2012 Honda VTX1800R and VTX1800N Review

Riders have always chosen Hondas because they want to ride. Really ride. They like the performance. The reliability. The build quality. They know that a Honda is a bike you can rely on for decades, and thousands of miles. Our 2012 Honda VTX1800R cruisers still offer all that. But along the way, we’ve added another feature: drop-dead-gorgeous good looks. It used to be you had to choose between performance and style. Between reliability and looks. But with a Honda VTX1800R, you can have it all. Maybe you’re content to trailer your bike places, or to just ride it ten minutes at a time and then get off and pose. Hey, whatever turns your crank it’s your life. But when you want to actually ride, well, then there’s only one choice.

Honda VTX1800R

2008 Honda VTX1800N With three models in our VTX1800 line this year, the first thing you need to do is learn which is which. When it comes to the VTX1800N, think N for Neo Retro. Cast wheels land it solidly in the modern camp when it comes to performance. Straight-cut exhaust tips with five-bolt caps do too. The fenders are another unique styling touch, and the two-piece seat looks like it came right out of a custom upholstery shop. The fat tires on those wheels let everyone know that this VTX1800R and VTX1800N is all business. It’s hard to pin one style on this bike it’s really unique in the cruiser world. As with all our 2008 VTX1800R and VTX1800N models, the N is available in two build levels.

The VTX1800N Engine is a 1795cc liquid-cooled 52-degree V-twin that hammers out immense power. V-twin engine features 4-inch cylinder bores and the largest connecting rods and cylinders Honda has ever made. The 41.4-pound forged-steel crankshaft uses bolt-on weights, reducing crankcase width nearly 2 inches and reducing crankshaft weight 8.8 pounds compared to a conventional one-piece design. The engine mounting system uses carefully matched hangers and rubber mounts to eliminate unwanted vibration, while preserving the powerful character of the V-twin design. The VTX1800N is rolling, chromed proof of how cool and trendsetting a cruiser can be. Blending equal parts past and future, like flowing lines and swooping, hot-rod-retro fenders with flush-mounted LED brake/tail lights, bullet-style turn signals and gorgeous cast aluminum wheels, the “N” has single-handedly redefined how a bold and innovative new cruiser should look.

2012 Honda VTX1800R

The new 2008 Honda VTX1800 is the bike that started it all, wrapping Honda's biggest-ever V-twin engine in a stylish, too-cool-for-words package that continues to put other street-rods to shame. Horsepower, handling, acceleration, and the stunning looks to match no V-twin cruiser on the market today better embodies these timeless traits than the VTX1800N, boasting innovative features like a massive 1795c V-twin engine with dual-plug combustion chambers; Linked Braking System; and classically cool styling that includes swooping, sculpted fenders, LED lighting, straight-cut, two-into-two mufflers, and stunning cast aluminum wheels.

2012 Honda VTX1800 Review

Our 2008 Honda VTX1800 line features powerful liquid-cooled 52-degree V-twins that pump out more than 106 horsepower and 120 foot-pounds of torque. The crankshafts alone weigh more than 40 pounds. They’re awesome powerplants. Once you’ve ridden one it’s hard to go back to anything less. Every 2008 Honda VTX1800 is available in two build levels. Horsepower, handling, acceleration, and the stunning looks to match no V-twin cruiser on the market today better embodies these timeless traits than the VTX1800F, boasting innovative features like a massive 1795c V-twin engine with dual-plug combustion chambers; Linked Braking System; and dragbike-esque accents that include low handlebars, an 18-inch rear wheel and sleek, gunfighter-style saddle. What’s the difference? It’s all about how your VTX looks: the range of color choices, and how much chrome and polished aluminum you get. Log on to vtx.honda.com for all the details.

The 2008 Honda VTX1800 is 1795cc Liquid-Cooled 52° V-twin Engine Unique offset dual-crankpin crankshaft design helps VTX engine produce peak horsepower at 5000 rpm and peak torque at 3500 rpm while minimizing vibration and allowing for a smooth-running engine. 2008 Honda VTX1800 programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) ensures optimal fuel delivery utilizing sensors for intake-port pressure, engine-coolant temperature, intake-air temperature and atmospheric pressure. There’s more to your new Honda than all its great features. Shaft Final Drive Clean, reliable and virtually maintenance-free, shaft final drive on a cruiser just plain makes sense. Pistons in the VTX1800 are big-bore powerhouses, with pistons nearly four inches across for plenty of low-rpm torque. Fuel Injection big twins with carburetors can stumble and lurch. The throttle is updated with Honda’s new Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system, using a vacuum sensor within the first ten percent of opening to more precisely meter torque, until the standard throttle position sensor takes over. It develops 120 ft x lbf of torque at only 3500rpm and 106 bhp @ 5000 rpm, resulting into the most powerful production V-twin motorcycles of its time. Power is driven to the rear wheel through a shaft drive. Your new VTX1800 uses fuel injection. Problem solved!

Cruisers are all about personal expression. So express yourself and treat your new ride to our lineup of Honda Genuine Accessories. With more than 200 individual items for your VTX, you can order them at the same time you order your new bike. Remember, always wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing whenever you ride. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and never use the street as a racetrack. Inspect your motorcycle before riding and read your owner’s manual. Check your HRCA guide or the HRCA website (hrca.honda.com) concerning reimbursement through the Honda Rider’s Club of America for MSF rider training. Obey the law, use common sense, respect the rights of others when you ride, and make sure you have a proper license when riding on public roads. Operating your motorcycle with a modified engine, exhaust system or noise-control system may be illegal.

2012 Honda CBR250R Stronger Power

A low 30.5" seat height does more than help make sure the 2012 Honda CBR250R fits a wide range of riders. It makes it easier to put your feet down at stoplights and in parking lots a big confidence builder. A separate passenger seat, integrated grab rail, and standard passenger footpegs mean you can take a friend along when you go riding another example of the CBR250R's versatility. Removing the rear passenger seat provides a lockable area to throw a map, gloves, or a spare set of sunglasses.

Take a close look at the CBR250R's unique bodywork, which is designed for style and functionality. It routes airflow for both engine cooling and rider comfort, while creating a unique sportbike style. The CBR250R's digital gauges with analog tachometer provides vital riding information in a styled, hi-tech instrumentation package.

2012 Honda CBR600RR New Power

By eliminating the frame-mounted top shock mount, Unit Pro-Link isolates the chassis from bumps, resulting in more precise handling and better traction. Developed on Honda CBR600RR championship-winning MotoGP bikes, it's a perfect example of the CBR's superior engineering. All-new, electronically controlled Combined ABS distributes brake force over both wheels, helping to maintain braking confidence in less than ideal conditions. The system electronically measures rider input on the brake lever and pedal and applies only the front or rear brake in some cases, or combines both brakes in other situations.

2012 Honda CBR600RR
2012 Honda CBR600RR
2012 Honda CBR600RR
The CBR600RR uses radial-mounted monoblock front-brake calipers. This construction makes the caliper stiffer, and that means you get better brake feel for more linear, powerful stopping.  Each caliper also uses four chromium-plated aluminum pistons for smooth, friction-free operation. The Honda Multy Action Sytem (HMAS) cartridge fork features an exclusive internal piston construction.  The innovative design employs smaller-diameter pistons to keep oil velocity high for improved damping characteristics and an expanded range of adjustability.  The result: you get more precise suspension performance, especially over smaller surface irregularities.

The CBR600RR two sets of injectors per cylinder ensure both low- and high-rpm performance. You get near instantaneous high-rpm response, along with great low-rpm metering and clean running. Nose mounted, two-stage ram air system provides a high volume of cool air to the airbox, for linear power delivery and superb engine performance. The CBR600RR's 4.8-gallon fuel tank is positioned in the center of the chassis and low in the frame.  This allows for a more compact design, but even more important helps centralize the bike's mass.  Increased mass centralization means the CBR600 is more responsive to rider input, especially when leaning the bike into a turn or standing it up at the exit.

2012 Honda CB1000R New Stylish Performance

The 2012 Honda CB1000R is a perfect example of Honda innovation. Combining power, light weight, and refined, responsive handling with its good looks, it’s equally at home on a sportbike ride, a weekend-long getaway, or a boulevard prowl. The CB1000R uses a 998cc inline-four engine based on a previous generation CBR1000RR, but is tuned to produce more torque and horsepower in the midrange and bottom end-the perfect combination for a machine like this. The CB1000R's Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) ensures crisp throttle response and both low- and high-rpm performance. In addition, there's no choke to mess with, and the CB1000R runs perfectly at all altitudes and temperatures, even on cold mornings.

Looks great, sounds great, and helps increase performance: How's that for a win-win-win situation? The four-into-one header with its flowing pipes pays homage to classic Honda inline fours of the 1970s like the CB400 Supersport. Some things just never go out of style. Gravity Die-Cast technology gives the CB1000R a chassis that's strong, but light.  The single backbone architecture links the steering head to the swingarm pivot, but without any frame spars to interrupt the CB1000R's lines.

Proven on Honda's endurance racebikes, the CB1000R's single-sided swingarm not only looks awesome, but makes rear-wheel maintenance easier as well. The CB1000R's lowboy muffler not only looks cool and sounds great, it also offers a handling advantage by moving the silencer lower and closer to the bike's center of mass. The CB1000R's radial-mounted monoblock front-brake calipers are stiffer, for better brake feel and performance.  Each caliper uses four pistons that squeeze lightweight 310mm floating discs for exceptional stopping power.

The 2012 Honda CB1000R uniquely styled, the LED Position Light is a compelling design feature that shows everyone that this is not any ordinary motorcycle. It's a Honda CB1000R's high-tech, all-digital instrument display features tachometer, plus LCD readouts for speedometer, coolant temperature, odometer, two tripmeters and a clock, mpg and average fuel consumption. A bike as powerful as the new CB1000R needs top-notch suspension components. That's why we gave it a stout, large-diameter 43mm inverted fork that's fully adjustable. And it's also one of the reasons why the CB1000R handles so well. CB1000R's adjustable brake and clutch levers let you fine tune for the riding environment, and tailor fit the controls to your riding style.
