The 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere is a street bike designed to fuse the touring and off-road worlds, giving motorcyclists a machine that can go virtually anywhere and do anything. Powering this do-it-all machine is a fuel-injected and liquid-cooled 1199cc Parallel Twin, a configuration Yamaha chose specifically due to its compact size. Each piston slides within a cylinder that has a bore and stroke measuring 98.0 x 79.5mm and compresses fuel to a ratio of 12.0:1. The engine’s firing order has been set so both of the cylinders fire closely together so the powerband mimics that of a large single-cylinder engine, which they claim enhances power delivery to the ground.

2012 Yamaha Tenere has a water cooled parallel twin engine which is narrow and more compact to GS air cooled flat twin. Because of engine configuration ten has better temperature control better centralization of mass more efficient due to less internal engine noise and is far more reliable. GS is very difficult to drive through narrow gaps or deep trenches therefore less off road capabilities. GS had a myth as an off roader but there was no other choice. Ten employs far superior electronic technology than GS ordinary config. Ten 261 kg, GS Adven. 275 kg fully fueled. GS promoted weight is with 90% of fuel capacity and no ABS, TC heated grips and so on while Ten is fully loaded.

Yamaha Super Ténéré has a new 1199cc parallel twin liquid-cooled engine features a unique 270° crank for superior traction because both pistons fire so closely together. It’s almost like having a big-bore thumper without the uncomfortable vibration. The all-new steel frame is designed to reduce rider fatigue during long rides. Using a steel main frame offers the best balance of strength and flexibility, one good at absorbing jolts from uneven road surfaces. The Super Ténéré comes equipped with an adjustable windshield and seat height. Yamaha Chip Control Throttle (YCC-T) electronically controls the throttle valves for outstanding response and improved controllability at all rpms. The YCC-T is used to provide even more control of the intake air volume for a smoother torque character. Special main ECU actually features 3 internal ECUs to control ignition, fuel injection and the YCC-T.

The ABS or Anti Lock Braking System features Yamaha’s next generation independent linear controlled system with step-less, infinitely variable hydraulic pressure adjustment. The ABS unit, the ECU and the hydraulic unit are combined into a single compact unit that allows for mass centralization. This system uses the same wheel sensors as the traction control system, further reducing weight. When the ABS system senses impending wheel lock-up, the system regulates the hydraulic pressure to the point just before the wheel or wheels lock-up. ABS equipped “wave-style” 282mm rear disc is squeezed by a single piston, slide-type rear caliper. The rear master cylinder uses a 14mm piston to deliver strong, progressive stopping power with excellent control and feel.
